Discovery can be a very tedious task, especially if the case is deemed complex and involves multiple parties. Once the documents are produced, exchanging the documents can be a daunting task. This is where Electronic Service (E-Service) comes into play. Rather than having to mail, e-mail or fax the documents, litigants can simply and securely upload the documents onto an Online Case Management system to serve all parties instantly. Not only does E-Service streamline the process of exchanging documents, the system provides a secure and centralized database for all the documents to be stored and accessed 24/7/365. No longer do attorneys need to travel with bulky briefcases full of paper documents. All case related documents can be accessed and reviewed through the E-Service providers Online Case Management system. There is also no need to worry about documents never being received, all files are logged and tracked to ensure secure delivery. More importantly, E-Service significantly reduces the amount time and money involved in serving documents. This allows attorneys and their staff to focus on more pertinent tasks. How do you authorize E-Service? Counsel must agree and create an Order or Stipulation authorizing Electronic Service of Documents. The below are examples: • E-Service Order Insert • E-Service Stipulation & Order When selecting an Online Litigation Support provider, the following questions should always be considered: • Is the user interface easy to navigate? • What security protocols are implemented to deter cyber hacks? • What is included in the platform and at what cost? NOTE: Be sure to conduct your due diligence to work with a provider that offers exceptional customer and technical support. These two factors go a long way to ensure a symbiotic relationship. A solo practitioner or small firm can litigate like that of a mid-size to larger law firm without the need of in house vendors or staff. Most litigation support tasks can be completed through an Online Litigation Support provider which essentially works as an extension of their firm. Online Case Management tools not only centralize case data, but it allows attorneys to collaborate and organize with their team remotely. Conclusion The legal industry has changed drastically from a decade ago. As the legal industry continues to adopt technolo into everyday practice, I foresee the use of more automation tools being utilized on a regular basis. It is only a matter of time until the new generation of attorneys truly change the legal landscape with technolo.
