The 2018 Survey participants included corporate and government professionals, however 95% of the respondents work in law firms. The survey provides responses from 181 firms with half of the responses from organizations in the 201-1000 range - although responses were received from every size law firm / corporate department / government agency. ILTA remains engaged in ensuring the annual survey covers a range of relevant topics and works to continuously improve the scope and breadth of its questions. ILTA 4 Michael Quartararo is a member of the 2018 Survey team and has provided insight to the survey results from his [Litigation Support] Project Management perspective. The data points that stand out to me from ILTA's 2018 Litigation and Practice Support Survey are the increase in recent years of the use of project management tools and the increased interest in the need for ILTA programming around project management. In 2015, the first year we asked which PM tool was being used, 78% of survey respondents answered "none." In 2016, that percentage dropped to 58% and in 2017 it dropped again to 46%. The 2018 survey reveals that 44% of organizations have no PM tool, a small change for sure, but continuing to reflect a trend toward increased use of an interest in litigation support project management tools. Also interesting is the marked trend toward custom-built PM applications. While the use of Excel and MS Project remained somewhat flat, custom tool use grew from 14% in 2015 to 27% in 2018. Seemingly in correlation with this trend, is the survey respondents' interest in more ILTA programming built around litigation support project management. In 2016, 48% of respondents asked for more PM programming. In 2017, 56% sought more PM programming. And in 2018, 62% of respondents expressed interest in more PM programming from ILTA. These statistics reflect a clear trend toward and interest by ILTAns in project management.
