32 K egler Brown signed with NetDocuments in late 2006. There was a lot to like about NetDocuments back then – remote access, high availability, a full-text search engine that worked, etc. – but there were some weaknesses too. In particular, the admin toolset was a little inelegant, audit logging was barebones, we no longer enjoyed direct access to the underlying database, and the opportunities for 3rd party add-on solutions were few and far between. Over the years, NetDocuments has diligently chipped away at any and all of these limitations. NetDocuments improved admin features and functions here and there. They started logging more detail in audit trails. But, the great leap forward took place in 2013 when NetDocuments introduced the REST API. The REST API allows us to access NetDocuments programmatically. With REST, we have a way into the database, so-to- speak, and 3rd parties can now create bolt-on modules for the NetDocuments cloud in the same way they do for on-prem solutions. As of today, there are 84 3rd party solutions in the NetDocuments app directory. As this applies to admin functionality, Prosperoware has stepped into the void with a brilliant, hosted solution called "CAM". It offers much better ease of use and lends itself to greater accuracy. CAM targets any number of admin functions including user\group management, workspace management, profile lookup maintenance and reporting, to name a few. CAM manages internal and external users and groups. It syncs internal users from AD and collapses nested AD groups into the flat groups as required by NetDocuments. External users are created in CAM and synced to NetDocuments directly from CAM. With CAM it is much clearer
