Workstream 2: KM Culture and Sharing A KM plan will move a lot further if it is underpinned by a culture that encourages, rewards and recognizes knowledge sharing. » Advanced: The program has evolved to the point where knowledge sharing is an established part of the organization's culture because its benefits are recognized and understood. » Intermediate: The program might have knowledge sharing and engagement among most but not all people. » Intermediate: There is likely at least one full-time KM person, a prioritized KM plan across some business units and some management support and budget for KM. » Basic: Rather than a specific KM person or plan, there might be someone with KM duties and a fairly limited KM budget who also has responsibilities in another area of the business. The good news is that by following some of the tips below around draing or updating a KM plan and leveraging your people and technology resources, you can likely achieve some quick wins to advance your organization's KM strategy and resourcing, even without a large staff or budget. » When draing or updating a KM plan: » Ensure that it supports your organization's business priorities and consider whether you need multiple plans if your organization is highly matrixed. » Avoid overly ambitious plans and set realistic goals ("plan big but start small"). » Ensure knowledge activities provide the support needed by regularly connecting with key stakeholders, and consider sending out a survey to better gauge the knowledge needs of the business.
